Marsden Mechanics’ Men – The Movers and Shakers of 19th Century Marsden

A study of the men responsible for running Marsden Mechanics’ Institute and their influence on the village and beyond in the 19th century.

A presentation by Steve Challenger. Having spent most of his working life at Leeds College of Technology as Vice-Principal, Steve ended his career heading up a West Yorkshire wide lifelong learning project from the University of Huddersfield. With a scientific background, Steve has always had an interest in the local history of Leicestershire, the South Wales valleys and Huddersfield. Since retirement he has been researching various aspects of Marsden life in the 19th century. Steve is currently the Society’s Treasurer.

The meeting will be in the Reception Room of Huddersfield Town Hall, and we very much hope members will feel able to join us for the first time in over two years. With the demolition of the Market multi-storey car park, the Civic Centre car park in Albion Street should be the best bet for free evening car parking.

All are welcome to attend. Members of the society attend for free, £2 for non-members.
